Barrels by the Bay is a nonprofit organization with the mission to educate individuals about our world’s water resources through rain barrels.
Coca-Cola syrup barrels are converted into rain barrels, which are then painted by participants and installed in the community. Our team works to educate community members about our world's water issues while helping combat flooding and stormwater runoff concerns throughout communities. Our programs highlight the importance of water conservation efforts and inspire students through environmental education.
Barrels by the Bay teaches students first-hand, through community stewardship, the direct impact that they can make on the environment through rain barrels. Rain barrels are systems that collect and store rainwater that would otherwise flow into local waterways carrying pollutants.
Since Barrels by the Bay’s founding in 2015, we have reached over 20,000 participants in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, Florida and Washington, D.C. Nearly 1,000 rain barrels have been painted and installed in communities, reducing millions of gallons of stormwater runoff annually. Our school programs educate students and the community at large about our world’s water resources, foster creativity through youth development, and sustain our world's water resources through the installation of rain barrels.
